Elkhorn Slough Wildlife Adventure: Sat, Feb 4th

Winter is the best time for experiencing the wide range of birds and mammals that either live in or stop by to visit on their migrations. Elkhorn Slough is a perfect spot for beginning paddlers to learn and explore. Join our experienced guides for a paddling experience you won’t forget. Sea otters, harbor seals and over 200 species of birds live in or pass through Elkhorn Slough.

This course will begin on land with a discussion of the equipment, an outline of the day’s activities, and quick overview of proper kayaking techniques. Then we’ll tour  San Leandro Bay, the estuary channel and the beautiful Arrowhead Marsh area.  We’ll break for a shared potluck lunch, bring enough for 8. After lunch, we’ll continue our paddling tour of the area refining each individual’s skills as we go.
PROVIDED
Kayaks, paddles, life vests, paddle jackets and all associated safety equipment. Wetsuits provided when weather requires.

This class is taught on the Lower American River and covers intermediate skills such as kayak surfing, river reading and eddy catching.
