F.A.Q.

Does Current Adventures offer family and group discounts?
Yes. A discount is available for families or groups of three or more booking classes or trips.  Each family or group member booking after two full price reservations are made receives a $15 discount. The family/group discount doesn’t apply to river classes and trips or to any already discounted class or trip.

What other discounts does Current Adventures offer?
Our discounts vary by the month,  season and Dan’s mood. See our discounts page for more information. Please keep in mind that only one discount is applicable to each reservation.

What is your cancellation or payment policy?
Please refer to our Payment Policy page for information on cancellation, rescheduling and payment policies.

Can I buy Gift Certificates?
We offer gift certificates for any class or trip.  You can also purchase a gift certificate for any dollar amount. We’re happy to apply gift certificates towards any class or trip. Please call or email to request a customized gift certificate.

Can I use my own kayaking gear during the class?
We do recommend that you use your own gear if you have it. We prefer to teach you in the gear you will regularly use so you feel comfortable and confident on your own. Your instructor has the final say on whether your kayak is appropriate for your class and skill level.  Instructors are happy to offer tips on how to make your kayak fit more comfortably and work better for you.

Do I receive a discount if I use my own gear in a class or trip?
We offer a 25% discount if you bring your own boat and gear on our Cosumnes River Preserve EcoTour.  You must have prior approval to use your own kayak.  Please let us know what model kayak you have when you make your reservation. A gear discount is only available for the Cosumnes River Preserve EcoTour.  You are welcome to bring your own kayak and gear on other classes and trips, with prior approval, but we won’t apply a discount.

What if I don’t have my own kayaking gear?
We provide kayaks and all the gear you’ll need for all of our classes and outings except our Quick Clinics (rental kayaks are available for this class).  We don’t provide kayaks and gear for overnight trips. Kayaks, inflatable kayaks, paddles, paddling clothing and camping gear are available to rent. See our rentals page.

Why can’t I rent a kayak, inflatable kayak or raft for use on the South Fork American River unless I’m in a Current Adventures class or guided trip?
The El Dorado County River Management Plan prohibits us or any other company within El Dorado County from renting watercraft for use on the South Fork American River.

Where can I purchase kayaking gear?
The River Store offers a wide array of river clothing and equipment. They are conveniently located at 1032  Lotus Road.  Their phone number is (530) 626-3435. The River Store is the meeting spot for most of our river kayaking classes held on the South Fork American River. It’s convenient to meet at the store so you can purchase any gear we don’t provide or you’ve forgotten.

Is there lodging or camping near by?
There are many options for lodging in the Coloma-Lotus area.  See our Links page for a full list of those options from camping to luxury lodging.
